Join The Crew

We're looking for some amazing humans to join our journey

Before you get too excited, read this page.

We're looking for people to join The Clearing Crew — and we want to be completely straight with you about what that means before you take another step.

Not because we want to put you off.

Because the right people deserve to know what they're walking into — and so do we.

"Our work is meaningful, sometimes challenging, and genuinely important. It is not for everyone..."

Colleen and Sara, Founders

What we actually do

The Clearing Crew supports people who need help reclaiming their homes and lives — including those affected by hoarding, and families navigating the aftermath of trauma or unattended death.

This means support in hoarded spaces and property clearance.

It also means specialist biohazard decontamination — working in full PPE in environments that can be distressing, unpredictable, and physically demanding.

This work is probably not for you if…

You're drawn to it because of TV programmes about hoarding or crime scene cleaning

The reality is very different, and the people we support deserve better than a spectator

You want to fix people, rescue them, or make decisions for them

Our work is led entirely by the person we're supporting, at their pace

You find it hard to leave work at work

Boundaries aren't optional here, they're a professional requirement

You're going through a difficult period yourself right now

This work asks a lot. Some of our clients are experiencing real challenges and situations. To keep you safe and to give the best to our clients it helps to be in a good place yourself.

You're looking for a straightforward cleaning or removal job

This is something quite different, and involves as much people skills as practical ones.

You're not comfortable with sensory or physical demands

There is a fair amount of lifting, carrying, working in confined or cluttered spaces for extended periods and can involve odours and environments that are difficult to prepare for.

Vaccinations or specific PPE requirements are something you're unable or unwilling to meet

Because of the environments we work in, our crew may be exposed to blood, bodily fluids, sharps and other biological hazards. In order to keep ourselves safe, crew members are expected to have Hepatitis A and B vaccinations where the role requires them before they can work on those sites.

This work might be exactly right for you if…

You have life experience that has given you perspective, patience, and a thick skin

You don't need a specific background, age or qualification — you just need to have lived a bit and have the capability to hold space for people.

You are genuinely kind — not performatively, just naturally

The people we support can tell the difference immediately (and so can we)

You can hold a real conversation, really listen, and read a room

Sometimes the most important thing you'll do all day is to be present

You know when to ask for help and have no interest in playing the hero

We look out for each other. This work is only sustainable if we carry it together

You are observant, grounded, and not easily rattled — or can recover quickly when you are

You don't need to be unshockable, you do need to be able to find your feet again.

You understand that some situations are deeply human & require you to show up as a full human being

Not a professional with a checklist — an actual person. Yes we do have professional boundaries and limits- we can teach these. What our clients really need is someone who can hold this and engage as a human.

You have a driving licence and access to your own vehicle

Most of our work takes place across a wide geographical area, including rural locations with little or no public transport. It'd be really difficult to almost impossible to get to some sites without independent transport.

What we offer...

A space where people matter.

We want people to find their home with us — not forever, but for as long as we're working together, as part of the team rather than just for the company.

We know everyone brings different strengths, and some people may need adjustments to do their best work. Wherever it's reasonably possible, we'll make those adjustments — whether that's how a role is structured, the tools you use, or how we communicate.

Some roles have essential requirements — for safety or practicality — that can't be changed. Where that's the case, we'll always have an honest conversation with you first, so you understand what's needed and we understand what would help. You're welcome to raise access needs or adjustments at any stage of applying, not just once you've got the job.

We don't care who you love, or what box someone else tried to put you in — we care whether you show up, do the work with care, and treat people with dignity- no exceptions. If you can't treat every colleague and client with respect regardless of who they are, this isn't the place for you.

Flexible hours.

We're primarily looking for sub-contractors, though temporary contracts may be available depending on you and what works for us both.

Full training and ongoing support.

You won't be dropped in the deep end. Full training and ongoing support is part of the package. We're small, we're close, and we take each other as seriously as we take the work.

A bit of levity in the middle of all the seriousness.

We're quite silly sometimes. Never at the expense of the people we support — but we'd be lying if we said there weren't moments where we laugh together.

Still here? Good.

Before anyone applies, we hold a free 60-minute online Q&A.

It's not an interview.

It's a chance for you to find out what this work is really like, ask us anything, and decide for yourself whether it's right for you.

We'd rather you walk away informed than walk into a role that isn't the right fit.

Your time matters.

So does ours.
